The Essex Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy is a program created to bring the relationship between the Essex Police Department and the citizens we protect and serve closer together. Our goal is to give people a glimpse of what our officers learn at basic training in the academy, VT Laws, our working partnerships with non-law enforcement agencies, and the ongoing trainings officers have each year. Our hope is, upon completion of the program, participants will seek out volunteer opportunities within the department at functions Essex Police partake in each year. Career positions such as Officers and Dispatchers, or seasonal positions such as Parks Patrol may be available and may interest those who participate in the Citizens Police Academy*.
*Participation nor completion of this program does not grant participants any law enforcement powers, it will give you a glimpse into who we are and what we do at the Essex Police Department.
Join us for our first Citizen's Academy. The academy will run over the course of eight weeks with one 3-hour class per week for a total of twenty-four training hours. The class will start April 18, 2023 on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
