ETC|NEXT was the Town of Essex’s process to re-imagine Essex Town Center, updating the 1991 Master Plan. 

The ETC|NEXT project included a substantial effort to engage the Essex Community, including a Focus Group Workshop, two Community Surveys, a Community Workshop and coordination by a community-based Steering Committee. With the ongoing input from the community, staff and consultants have completed the ETC|NEXT Master Plan: a vision for a future Essex Town Center that is better connected and more cohesive.

What Now?

The ETC|NEXT plan was reviewed and approved by the Planning Commission on November 12, 2020 and the Selectboard on March 13, 2021, giving the green light to implement the vision. Next steps will involve changes to zoning ordinances and construction standards, planning for capital investments in infrastructure and cultivating the individual identities of the neighborhoods that comprise the ETC.

Please look out for future discussions on zoning changes and attend upcoming Planning Commission meetings (found on the Agenda Center) to learn more and provide your input.
