Mission Statement and Core Values
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Essex Police Department to safeguard the lives and property of the people we serve, and to ensure public safety for all in partnership with the community. We dedicate ourselves to do so with honor and integrity, while serving with the highest degree of ethical standards at all times.
Core Values
The Essex Police Department’s Core Values form the foundation on which we perform our duties and conduct ourselves. They are an integral part of our daily operations and ensure that our personal and professional behavior reflect the highest traditions of excellence in our profession.
Courage: We believe that courage is the mental, moral, and physical strength to overcome fear, and to do what is right in the face of adversity. In our pursuit of excellence, we hold that courage is also the willingness to change in response to well-founded criticism.
Integrity: We will always act with honesty and strong ethical principles in our words and what we do. Our actions will always be consistent with our core values, our oath of honor and the law. We will maintain our commitment by having a reverence of the law in both our personal and professional lives. We recognize that integrity in our actions is the basis of the trust bestowed to us by those we serve.
Respect: We believe in the dignity and worth of all people while serving the community with an equal commitment to justice and acceptance of diversity. We understand that we are not granted respect, but rather we earn respect by demonstrating respect in all that we do.
Oath of Honor
On my honor, I will never betray my integrity, my character, or the public trust.
I will treat all individuals with dignity and respect and ensure that my actions are dedicated to ensuring the safety of my community and the preservation of human life.
I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions.
I will always maintain the highest ethical standards and uphold the values of my community, and the agency I serve.
