Afterschool Enrichment Program

Session V: April 26 - May 27, 2021

Registration opens on April 2nd and ends on April 19.

Everyone loves to play with Legos. Each week, an AEP staff member will present the participants with a set of challenges such as the Blind Build, Amazing Mazes, the Name Game, or Musical Monsters.

*Hiawatha students are welcome but must provide their own transportation.*

Clay Sculpture 530906 E

In this fun and exciting introductory 5-week program participants will explore hand-building methods with clay though group and individual instruction. Students will learn to successfully plan, use hand-building techniques, glaze their own work, and reflect and share with the group. Each child will create and bring home 1-2 finished sculptures.

*This program is only available to Hiawatha students.*

Intermediate Mtn. Bike 530924 E2

This 5-week clinic is designed to grow and challenge young riders’ single track and “mountain bike” experiences. We will focus on safety awareness, proper technique, hill climbing, technical challenges, skill-building, trail etiquette, and fun. Riders should already be comfortable riding their bikes on easy single-track trails with rock and root challenges.

*Parents must provide transportation to Saxon Hill for child and bike. In the case of severe weather, this class will not be able to meet. No Class May 31*

This 5-week clinic is designed to introduce young riders to single-track trails and the “mountain bike” experience. We will focus on safety awareness, proper technique and skill-building, trail etiquette, and fun. Riders should already be comfortable riding their bikes on rail trails and neighborhood roads.

*Parents must provide transportation to Saxon Hill for child and bike. In the case of severe weather, this class will not be able to meet.*

Join our AEP staff in creating a wooden project that will enhance each student’s problem-solving skills as well as their hand-eye coordination. Sawmill Studio has created five projects just for students in grades K-3. Our AEP instructor will guide students through the building process and your child will bring home a new project each week that they are proud to show off.

Have fun with friends after school while being active. We will play a different sport every week: soccer, basketball, group games, and more. Sportsmanship is key and all skill levels are welcome. Please make sure your child wears comfortable clothing and sneakers for this program.

Generation POUND® fuses movement and music to improve focus, coordination, physical fitness, and teamwork skills for kids. Combining choreography and group activities, students use lightly weighted exercise drumsticks to engage in fun fitness activities.

If you love painting, sipping juice boxes and are ready to learn some new watercolor techniques, this program is for you. Each week a new project and technique will be introduced. All you need to bring is your creative mind.

*This program will be taught virtually by Cassandra Gengras, the art teacher at Hiawatha. An AEP monitor will be present to provide materials and classroom management.*

Middle School Programs

Middle School Enrichment programs for this session will meet at Maple Street Park. Students will be provided transportation to and from off-site programs. Students should arrange to walk home or be picked up at the conclusion of the program.
